There is also interaction between methodology and organization and delivery. Perceptions of job preparedness or being able to go on to further education after attending ABE courses varied among the adult learners interviewed. One college representative said that there was a need to develop laddering from ABE courses to other adult basic education courses. The programme primarily targets out-of-school youth and adults who never went to school or dropped out before completing primary school and therefore, with little literacy and numeracy skills as well as those who failed to access basic education through the NLP. Thereafter, Setswana and English the widely spoken national and official languages, respectively are progressively introduced as the medium of instruction and as taught subjects so as to create the necessary linkages between the programme and the general formal education system.
A majority of learners interviewed stated that they were aware of other training, education and upgrading programs that are applicable to their career and education goals, but all of these interviewees stated that they would have had to leave their communities to take the classes. A few students interviewed said that their families were very supportive, and this was helpful in making sure they were able to take their classes for example, by offering childcare. Therefore, it is important to systematically link research and evaluation findings to implementation practice. The education attainment of Indigenous people in the territories remains significantly lower than that of non-Indigenous people.
